Hi,

I understand the thread has told me not to type lines such as "Help Me" or "Urgent", but right now I'm that wound up I have no imagination left!

I am completely new to Linux. All I want to do at the moment is get the game Neverputt running (I know it's part of Neverball). I have downloaded and extracted the tar file but have no idea whatsoever where to go from there.

A million searches across the net perhaps have given me the answers but being a complete newbie none of these help. I know the very basics, such as commands on terminal, but that's about all.

Surely somebody out there can talk me through this step by step. ???

I am running suse 9.1 (I think lol).

Any help much appreciated. Thanks.

Never seen it but downloaded. Read the Readme file and followed the install for Linux,unix,osx

Run the command ' make '
Now where it is extracted after the make command run the command ' ./neverball '

I read the readme file, I'll paste here what it reads (missing out the credits etc)...


* BUILDING

Under Unix, Linux, and OSX, simply run

make

Under Windows, build using the provided Visual Studio solution.

The executables will be copied to the base directory. Maps will be
processed and copied into data/sol/. By default, an uninstalled build
may be executed in place.



* RUNNING

./neverball


On suse, the tar is was downloaded and extraced to my Documents folder. I went to Konsole and did CD to the right place and typed make, but nothing happens. after doing a DIR comman (remember this from msDos lol), it appears there is none ???

Sorry for being proper thick, it's just i spent my whole life with Windows (and am now sick of MS altogether).

Oh, after getting so far and typing 'make', I recieve the following on Konsole:

make: *** [share/vec3.o] Error 127

It's probably in your distro repositories. No need to compile it. It helps a lot if you fill out your profile, or tell us what distro you're using.

I'm using Suse 9.2 (i thought it was 9.1, but appaz not).

I have just gone to the YOU updater to loom for this SDL thing (whatever that means) and downloaded the lot, but still no luck.

Like I said, I'm proper new to all of this, need some kinda walkthrough!

I don't know anything about Suse, but my understanding is that you use Yast or something like that to download binary programs specially prepared for Suse.

3 days ago i f***ked off Windows to install Ubuntu, mainly to give linux a try and it was good. It came with an Add/Remove programs feature, so I just typed Golf for the sake of it, and thats when I found this neverball/neverputt game. The next day though, I installed Suse (for some reason suse finds my nvidia and creative labs card, while god knows how its done in ubuntu).

So i found the same game through google, but have no idea how to get it working in suse. In ubuntu it installs auto.

There gotta be a way surely.

It's probably more important that you study on Yast a little bit, and learn how to install programs generally than get putt-putt going immediately. I'm sure it's not very difficult.

Yeah, I know, you're right there. I'm a little impatient lol. I'm not a complete thicko though, I do know how to build sites in javascript with php and sql, but linux is something I have never attempted before! took me hours to figure out where drive C had gone lol!

Would you know of anywhere I can connect for live chat about this? Well, I guess that's basically asking for somebody else to sort it out for me instead of learning myself, but I guess I got a learning eye lol.

I think the game should be included with the DVD.
Go to YaST -> Software -> Software Management (don't know exactly, my Distro is Dutch)
Then search for NeverPutt in the list of games.

I am using 10.2, and before that 10.1, 10.0 etc and the game was included in all versions.
