There is also Tribal Trouble (www.tribaltrouble.com) which is pretty fun, not as much about base building, more build and army/attack.

Since you mentioned Total Annihilation, have you checked out TA3D the Total Annihilation Clone (http://sourceforge.net/projects/ta3d)

Also, Warcraft 3 and the expansion Frozen Throne run extremely well for me under wine with no significant issues.

Hey guys, don't forget Snes9x, a great open source super nintendo emulator. I was able to compile it just fine under slackware 10.2... plus there have been a lot of translation efforts in the last few years (Bahamut lagoon, star ocean, seiken densetsu, etc) so you can actually play more games than existed for the SNES.

I downloaded torcs and try to install it but i got the error that no freeglut found so i downloadet and tryed to install it... the configure was whitout any problem but the installation of freeglut fails it says that Gl/glu.h no such file or directory.. where did i wrong whats the problem..

Ignore this post I find rpm´s so now it works!

My favourite linux game is Fish Fillets, an extremely challenging puzzle game with two fish.

Check out Daimonin - free mmorpg. IMHO it's very addicting and in few days beta4 is comming (although beta3 is fully playable and runs without bugs or crashes) so there will be more maps, more feautures and first of all more fun.

I have found that the game 'Legends' is pretty good.

It would be on par with Tribes 2 and such like.

Sauerbraten has turned out to be quite a nice fps for Linux. You don't even have to compile it, just extract the archive and run the sauerbraten_unix executable. It runs great on my machine, no lag at all. Pretty nice graphics too, not the best but pretty good, especially for a free game. Just gotta turn up the gamma correction, everything is pretty dark right now.

I found this post while googling "Good Linux Games". I've installed Nexuiz and it's pretty cool except my sound is really choppy and it's kind of laggy, not really bad but noticable. I'm running the following:
256 MB NVidia FX 5500 - (Could explain lag, the recommended is a 5700 or higher)
2.2 Ghz Intel Celeron Processor
1 GB Dual Channel DDR1 SDRAM

It sure has been some time since I've browsed through the Linux - Games forum at LQ.org

:P anyhow, I've played and in some cases still play some of the following games:

Quake 3 Arena (who hasn't played that game under linux?)
Quake 4 (make sure you've got a pretty decent system unlike me or you'll suffer severely)
Enemy Territory (great FREE game! Some very decent MODs out there too)
NeverWinter Nights (one of the greatest RPG games out there to play natively under linux)
Civilization 3 (linux-native version runs great!)
Doom 3 (same as Quake 3 Arena / Quake 4)
Heroes of Might & Magic 3 (quite old game, but it's still very fun, glad they have gotten a linux-native version for it)
