I am running ubuntu v.10
and I have not had any problems doing that.
Everything worked fine.
Then I tried to install some games using wine
and they alle crashed when running them.
Then I tried some native linux games like
the ones from idsoft like doom95 and Quake 3
and they all could not run .......
I am currently on a pc with windows xp pro sp3
and I have a dual boot on my big c drive......
So I have still windows installed .
So I played all the games in windows and
no problems at all.
I have also had graphics problem too like
black and white screen suddenly and a
game movie that stalled and stuttered.....
So I read some other forums where somebody had
the same problems and the answer was to buy
a new graphics card.......
Is this true ?
I have ati 3d graphics card and it seemed odd
that the only games that crashed were the big 3d
games but the smaller linux games worked great with
no graphics problems........
So should i buy a new card or is there somehow I can
fix this another way ?
And can you give us some details about your video card (ATI 3D Graphics is not much: how many memory, and possibly even kind of VideoRAM or model of video card you use, etc)
I have fix it myself now.
The problem was the special grahpics driver that is disabled
by default by ubuntu i just went and enabled it and preste
everything worked.
I can now run 3d games too like in windows with no lacking
wow great
But what is smooth mouse ? I was having some strange isues with
especially halo evolved trial where the cursor wanted to go up
and up also when i forced it down it kept getting up again........
I solved this by changing from my 800 by 600 res to max
res on my video card and the isue was gone........
I have had some other isues where I could not turn all the way
around......... which is important that i can turn 180 degrees
espeically in a fps game which is my favorite genre.
Can this turn / control problem be fixed with smooth mouse ?
Somewhere in winecfg you have option to trap mouse (First option of Graphics or Video tab "Allow DirectX apps..."), this is for your issue about turning around. You can also install winetricks, because many games need special configurations to work correctly. You can also install PlayOnLinux
I was wondering, what native windows games are you running just fine with wine?.. I've always had a problem, I've gotten WoW to run but the fps was garbage. I wish steam would come out with a linux platform .
Many works. You have a list of status (fully work, partialy or no at all) on that page http://appdb.winehq.org/ If you have low fps, probably this is something with 3D. Did you installed DierecX in wine and do you have 3D enabled drivers in Linux system?
Well I have tested these fps and they work and run fast
as they should:
Halo combat evolved
Return to castle Wolfenstein
Quake 4
Good thing to check first is
Does ur linux native games run as they should ?
If yes there is better change ur windows games
in wine will ran better and faster.......
I had the same problem in the begining all my
games crashed. I went to windows xp(have dual boot radeon hd
3600 video card)then I saw I did not have the newest drivers
for my card and for direct x so I updated those
and config those and then I went back to ubuntu system
and saw I did not enable the preparoty driver for my ati radeon
card so i enabled it too and now everything runs great.
Btw. Also upgraded to newest version of wine and I use
smooth mouse and fast mouse speeds to fix the mouse isues
so now there are no isues left......

I'll have to toy around with it and see if I can get everything to work. I've seen some other software for linux that plays CoD4 and WoW. Although I don't care about WoW.. But I needs to get my Frag on
