gamepad calibration

I have a logitech wingman and it works in Linux FC3. My problem is that it needs to be calibrated because pushing the joystick to the left doesn't go left, while left and a little up goes left. I had to do the same thing in windows, so it's just the way the joystick is set in the controller.

If anyone knows how to calibrate it in Linux and save the results for use with, say, Mame or SNES9x, that'd be great!

Thanks,

I haven't tried in SNESX9 yet, but in mame the part of the control that is analog doesn't work right. Not sure how to make it use the d-pad.
