FCE Ultra runs slowly

Hello. For some reason, FCE Ultra 0.98.12 isn't running full speed on my slackware install. I used an older version, not sure what it was, it was just called fceu-sdl and it did run full speed; the problem with it was that I could not get my second gamepad working with it. I recompiled it a couple times with different optimizations for my system (Pentium 4 2.6ghz) and it sped it up a little, but still ran poorly. I was wondering if anyone else has encountered this problem or has any ideas to fix this. Thanks!

Well I found an older version (0.98.10) and now it runs full speed with both controllers working, so best of both worlds.
