Could not get Joystick working in Privateer Remake for Ubuntu 4.10

I just figured out how to get the joystick working in Privateer Remake for Ubuntu 4.10. This fix may also work for other linux distributions that are using udev.

What I did was edit the line in vegastrike.config for the joystick to the below.
#set Joystick joy_normal

Then I issued the following command in the root terminal:

ln -s /dev/input/js0 /dev/js0

Now I can use my joystick in Privateer.

With the above solution, you have to do it again each time you restart.

For a permanent solution you can modify /etc/udev/rules.d/udev.rules

You just have to make a very small change to the line below:

KERNEL="js*", NAME="input/%k"

Change it to read:

KERNEL="js*", NAME="input/%k", SYMLINK="%k"

Now your Joystick will be recognized by Privateer Remake even after you restart.
