Can't customize keyboard on xfce ultra

So, im trying to get xfce ultra nes emulator to work under my mdk 10 linux.

I compiled from source and installed it without problems. I can run the games and it looks nice, but i can't customize the keyboard so that i determine which key does what.
I can't figure out the default they use (i can go left, right and down, but the rest doesn't work).

It is supposed to work with the command

fceu -inputcfg gamepad1

but i got the same error as described here
http://sourceforge.net/tracker/index...36&atid=213536
(if you don't feel like loading the link here's the error)

fceu -inputcfg gamepad1
Loading gamepad1...

Error opening "gamepad1"

So i changed the codeline it suggests to change, and now when i run the same command, i get a dark screen with a little white point in the middle that moves from side to side when i move my mouse.

Does anybody have an idea of what is happening or how to solve this problem?

Thanks
nef

I received the same error message using version 0.98.13-pre

The forums have been taken down, so while I can not comment on the solution you used, I did find another solution. Using an unmodified version of the code. fceu requires a rom to be specified on the command line when configuring a joystick.

Instead of
fceu -inputcfg gamepad1 [WRONG]

Try
fceu -inputcfg gamepad1 SomeGame.nes

I run this from the console. I get a black box, and in the console it displays A to designate that I'm configuring button A. I hit the button I will be using for A TWICE. I repeat the procedure for each button in turn. Now I can run a rom as

fceu SomeGame.nes

and the gamepad works..

Again, remember to run fceu from a terminal, so you can see the useful output about what button you're configuring.

Valid Command

i did it with the following command call:

fceu -input1 gamepad -inputcfg gamepad1 snes_rom.nes
