successfully booting into lfs but i dont have lowercase c

I just completed lfs 7.8 and it boots just fine, after I login for some reason the lower case "c" doesn't work but all other numbers, symbols, and letters work just fine. Upper case c works. I plugged in a USB keyboard with the same results.

I loaded nano and i can type a lowercase"c" with no problems. Has anyone else had this issue?

When I do ls -l it returns 0 results, unless I need to change to the "/" directory first to see everything. I typed mount and it shows sda3 is mounted to "/" but it stinks because I can't even try to change directory's.

I'm using a ThinkPad g550 laptop.

Any help would be great thanks!

bash has a command editing feature, so you can press v (set -o vi) to use nano to edit command line and you can enter any command (like cd)

also you can try stty -a to check if terminal was misconfigured somehow.

I did the stty -a command and everything looks normal. Is there away I can change the layout in bash without the use of a lower case c. I can't really do all that much. I created a user account and it appears everything is mounted correctly which is good.

Not a solution, but if upper case C works, you can do C M-- M-L (that's upper case C, Alt Minus, Alt ell) to get a lower case c.

Also try Ctrl+V c (Ctrl+V does "quoted insert", which means to insert the next key literally).

The Ctrl+v c works great! Thats awesome, now I have to figure out what is going on with the keyboard. Now that I can type again, I'm going to check they keyboard settings. I set them to what my host distro, and see if it got messed up somehow

it sounds like you have some funny readline setting. Check /etc/inputrc, ~/.inputrc, or $INPUTRC if it's set.

See Readline Init File.

You were right, the inputrc file had a bunch of nonsense in it somehow. I deleted all of that and I rebooted the pc and I have the letter c again!

Now I'm going to finish the rest of the config files, thanks again!
