Root password during install? [solved]

Stupid question maybe, but in 5.32 in the book i'm told to login as root and change ownership of $LFS/tools to root. And, ehm...'su' prompts for a password...

It's prompting you for your root password that you setup when you installed your distro...

I should have mentioned i'm using the livecd. Searching the website I only found that it should work with just hiting enter, but an old bug set the password to 'lfs'. Neither works, however.
