PPPoE not working on a CLFS system

Hi,
I have an ADSL line and I used instructions from the BLFS book to setup a ppp connection. I have successfully tried those same instructions on previous builds, but this time it isn't working. I don't have an "always online" setup; I have to dial-in to connect to my ISP. My peer file looks like this:
Code:
# The plugin comes from the "ppp" package
# there's no need to install rp-pppoe
plugin rp-pppoe.so
# Ethernet interface name
eth0
# Your username at the ISP
user "xxxx"
# What should be in the second column in /etc/ppp/*-secrets
remotename "xxxx"
# If needed, specify the service and the access concentrator name
# rp_pppoe_service "internet"
# rp_pppoe_ac "ac1"

# The settings below usually don't need to be changed
noauth
hide-password
updetach
debug
defaultroute
noipdefault
persist
usepeerdns
This is my /etc/hosts file:
Code:
# Begin /etc/hosts (network card version)

127.0.0.1 localhost
xxx.xxx.x.xx <hostname>.<localdomain> <hostname>

# End /etc/hosts (network card version)
I connect with "pon <peername>". Now, it gets connected fine, but any outbound request goes unanswered. Ping doesn't work, opening URL's in a browser gives "Looking up <URL>". I don't use the if-up script that the book provides, because it wipes out my resolv.conf. what am I missing?

Ok, nm, figured it out (the /etc/sysconfig/network-devices/ifconfig.eth0/ipv4 file was setup for static ip's).
