You probably got the md5sum from a previous day upload. It's okay though.

Are you trying to md5sum check the 3.16.2 kernel with 3.13.2 kernel's md5sum file? 3.16.2 kernel should have it's own md5sum file. Just asking to make sure.

The sha256sum file from kernel.org has the following values for 3.16.2:
Code:
bec9cd0a2bedf8e7baae6793fd8ef0b951ad64dbaf72fce2df530509b5a303c9 linux-3.16.2.tar.gz
6e7942b4cc99c161b58bea6d3a5b15914e951ff3ebdaf9463b666c9c12a0859a linux-3.16.2.tar.xz
You can run check with sha256sum command.

When the checksums do not match it's not always that somebody has intentionally changed it and will hack us or like that. It could just be a bad download. If after above step the checksum (md5sum or sha256sum) does not match to the 3.16.2 kernel then redownload it.

The package you downloaded is OK as it passes given sha256sum check.

I don't use kernel straight from kernel.org so don't know about md5sum. I could not find any md5sum file there to verify. May be kernel.org does not use md5sum mechanism but only sha256sum?!

Anyway, you can proceed with the 3.16.2 kernel.
