Cool Kernel Compile problem

Hi,

I am getting an error when I compile my kernel and maybe someone out there knows what its about or how to fix it.?
Here it is:

make[2]: *** [ksyms.o] Error 1
make[2]: Leaving directory `/usr/src/linux-2.4.20-gentoo-r5/kernel'
make[1]: *** [first_rule] Error 2
make[1]: Leaving directory `/usr/src/linux-2.4.20-gentoo-r5/kernel'
make: *** [_dir_kernel] Error 2

Thats basically what happens at the end;

I had recently just made my second kernel and compiled it without any errors,
Now I am trying to make a third kernel and I get the above error with every attempt I make..

Help?

Here is the same response I gave you over at the Gentoo.org forums:

You need to cd to /usr/src/linux and then do make menuconfig, it appears you are doing this from /usr/src/linux-2.4.20-gentoo-r5/kernel which is most likely why you are getting this error.

I guessed that you were using gentoo since your kernel sources are identified as gentoo-r5 but I'm confused as to why you would post this in the Linux From Scratch forum.

*NOTE*Filling out your profile (user cp) to include the distro(s) you are using is very helpful for other people when responding to your posts, it not only lets us see what distro you are using but also gives us somewhat of an understanding as to what type of package systems you are familiar with.

nope sorry,
I do it from /usr/src/linux
everytime!
just like gentoo instructions say.

# cd /usr/src/linux
# make dep && make clean bzImage modules modules_install

In file included from /usr/src/linux-2.4.20-gentoo-r5/include/linux/modversions.h:137,
from /usr/src/linux-2.4.20-gentoo-r5/include/linux/module.h:21,
from ksyms.c:14:
/usr/src/linux-2.4.20-gentoo-r5/include/linux/modules/i386_ksyms.ver:96:1: warning: this is the location of the previous definition
make[2]: *** [ksyms.o] Error 1
make[2]: Leaving directory `/usr/src/linux-2.4.20-gentoo-r5/kernel'
make[1]: *** [first_rule] Error 2
make[1]: Leaving directory `/usr/src/linux-2.4.20-gentoo-r5/kernel'
make: *** [_dir_kernel] Error 2

Just a shot here: did you make a symlink between /usr/src/linux and /usr/src/linux-2.4.20-gentoo-r5 before doing make menuconfig?
