I am currently on Chapter 6, Installing Gawk

after installing the proper packages for MDK, I have had no errors up to this point.... I have tried several times, including rebooting but it always ends with this error:

Quote:
make[1]: Leaving directory `/static/src/gawk-3.1.1/intl'
Making install in .
make[1]: Entering directory `/static/src/gawk-3.1.1'
make[2]: Entering directory `/static/src/gawk-3.1.1'
/bin/sh ./mkinstalldirs /usr/bin
/usr/bin/install -c gawk /usr/bin/gawk
/bin/sh: /usr/bin/install: No such file or directory
/usr/bin/install -c pgawk /usr/bin/pgawk
/bin/sh: /usr/bin/install: No such file or directory
make[2]: *** [install-binPROGRAMS] Error 127

make[1]: *** [install-am] Error 2
make[1]: Leaving directory `/static/src/gawk-3.1.1'
make: *** [install-recursive] Error 1
i've tried searching the LFS archives and have found nothing...

please help

ok I found a file called install in /static/bin so for the hell of it I created a symlink to it in /usr/bin/ it worked, no errors...

BUT is this how I should do it.... did I mess up somewhere before? is it really installed properly?

It'll be fine. You were missing /usr/bin/install..maybe MDK puts it in /bin/install or you just didn't install the package that comes with it (part of fileutils, but not sure what that package is called in MDK).

You might have been able to pass something like make prefix=/usr/bin or some other variable, or edited the makefile. I dunno much about it, except I had to inform GKrellm that Mandrake uses /usr/bin, not the default /usr/local/bin, when installing.

ok thanks... but the symlink points to file in my /static/ directory (on the LFS partition), I thought once I was done I could delete the static directory, but I couldnt If i've got symlinks pointing to it.

Will /usr/bin/install be created later on in the process?

btw, i've already chrooted into LFS, Mandrakes filelayout shouldnt affect me should it?

sorry I just wanted make sure

thanks
