7.13 Bash Shell Startup files - need sample

Can anyone please post a sample of /etc/profile that is to be created.
Although i have got all values from the LC_ALL commands, i am unable to decide what goes where in the following:

Code:
cat > /etc/profile << "EOF"
# Begin /etc/profile
export LANG=<ll>_<CC>.<charmap><@modifiers>
# End /etc/profile
EOF
Thanks!

Hi,

You mention that you already set LC_*. What is the output of the locale command?

Example: en_US is set for LC_*
Code:
export LANG=en_US
Hope this helps.

Here's what mine looks like.
Code:
# Begin /etc/profile
export LANG=en_US
# End /etc/profile
My language (<ll>) is English and my country code (<CC>) is United States (US).

The four LC_ALL commands gave following:
charmap UTF-8
Language English
int_curr_symbol USD
int_prefix 1

So, in
Code:
export LANG=<ll>_<CC>.<charmap><@modifiers>
is there nothing to be substituted for
".<charmap><@modifiers>" ?

just,
Code:
export LANG=en_US
, will not give problem?

Correct. The .<charmap><@modifiers> part isn't always needed.

Hope this helps.

ok. I am using just
Code:
export LANG=en_US
. Thanks!

If ever need arises what should be substituted for ".<charmap><@modifiers>"

You're welcome

The charmap part is used to set, for example, UTF-8 (do read the LFS warnings about using UTF-8) . The modifiers part isn't too clear to me, I've never seen it used myself.

Maybe this will help: Changing your locale on UNIX and Linux systems

Hope this helps.

Although my basic query is resolved. And i am now able to boot into my OS. However i am facing this problem
http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...55#post4514955

I do not know if /etc/profile might have some issue, so not yet marking this as solved.

Also, if anyone does find out or want to share the information on @modifiers please do.

Thanks all!

Edit: marking as solved. No problem with /etc/profile
