Smile why different architectures are displayed in distros of RedHat?


hi,
Somebody please do reply to this
question:"why different architectures are displyed in the distros of RedHat i.e <arch> i786 on Shrike and i686 on Taroon(RHEL-ES 3)?

Well first off Strike (or Red Hat Linux 9) is a dead OS, Red Hat quit supporting it well over two years ago.

To and your question the various versions are for the different cpu's;
i386 is for the Intel (and compatible) 386 CPU's and higher based systems
i686 is for the Intel (and compatible) Pentium 4 CPU's based systems
