Sendmail

Sorry all, I keep posting this in the wrong forum...

Default install of RHEL AS 3.0
sendmail version 8.12.10-1

Trying to send an email and I get the following error in /varlog/maillog

Nov 4 09:01:28 servername sendmail[12467]: iA4H1SCV012467: to=whoever@domain.com, ctladdr=whatever (whatever/groupid), delay=00:00:00, xdelay=00:00:00, mailer=relay, pri=30059, relay=[127.0.0.1] [127.0.0.1], dsn=4.0.0, stat=Deferred: Connection refused by [127.0.0.1]

I verified that 127.0.0.1 is listed in /etc/mail/access and hosts. Still I cannot send any email unless sendmail is started in daemon mode.. Any ideas?

modify under /etc/mail/sendmail.mc and check.

comment out the line below by prepending it with 'dnl", like so:

dnl DAEMON_OPTIONS(`Port=smtp,Addr=127.0.0.1, Name=MTA')

restart the services with 'service sendmail restart' and check.

hope this helps.

You can use Postfix as alternative mail server. it's easy to configure and use.

For more informaiton, see http://www.postfix.org

hitesh_linux,

Thanks for you help. I already had my sendmail.mc configured that way. Any other ideas?

- What are the contents of your files?

/etc/mail/sendmail.cw - make sure yourdomain.com is listed

/etc/mail/access - make sure you relay for localhost
#
localhost.localdomain RELAY
localhost RELAY
127.0.0.1 RELAY
#
yourdomain.com RELAY
others_for_this_box.de RELAY
More_VirtualDomains.de RELAY

Hope this helps you.
