protocols monitoring

Hi to all,

I am using SNMP/MRTG for monitoring packets in/out from rhe network. It shows overall packets status, but not customized information. Means I have enabled FTP and HTTP services on this RHEL-5 system.I want to see the performance status of these services(in chart)same just as MRTG displays.

I have heard of ManageApplication Manager,BigBrother and Nagios but these softwares configuration are too much. Can anynody recommed me any software with minimal configuration to check the performance of any services/protocol which I want.

Can this MRTG can be customized with SNMP so as to display only the status of select services.

Thanks in advance.

Reading http://oss.oetiker.ch/mrtg/3party.en.html you notice you can http://howto.aphroland.org//HOWTO/MRTG/ScriptsAndInetd, which could lead to examples http://www.leh.net/~kevin/docs/mrtg/connect.html and http://anhold.com/mrtgstuff/ftpstat.txt to get you started.
