Problem while setting quota's with edquota command in Red Hat Linux..

Hi Friends

I am facing problem while setting quota on my folder /users mounted on /dev/sda7 using edquota for a user <user_name>.

Steps followed to set quota are as below :--

Step 1 : vi /etc/fstab
/dev/sda7 /users ext3 defaults,usrquota 0 0
<wq>

Step 2 : mount -o remount /users

Step 3 : quotacheck -c /users

Step 4 : quotaon /users

Step 5 : edquota <user_name>
/dev/sda7 0 0 0 0 10 20
<wq>

After saving this file I'm getting message on console saying :--

" edquota: Quota file not found or has wrong format "

Please suggest how can avoid this message .. Though quota set on inode entries are working fine for that particular user. But why this message is being flashed every time I edit quota for any user using edquota command.

Step 6 : cd /users
# ls -ltr
# aquota.user ( this file is present in that /users directory )

Thanks in advance !!

I think you need to specify "/users" rather than "/dev/sda7" on your edquota.

Unhappy

Hi

Thanks..I tried to replace /dev/sda7 with /users in the file which got opened with edquota <user_name> command . But it still giving me the same message.

And when I again ran the command edquota <user_name> to check the changes
Things got changed automatically to /dev/sda7 and all quotas got removed also for that particular user also..

Same message is comming . Please suggest how to resolve this issue.

And plz excuse me if I posted this problem under wrong forum , I believe it should be posted under Newbie.
Thanks..

The message is saying you don't have the quota files yet.

Use "quotacheck -cug /users" to create the initial files.

Issue resolved mentioned as below !!..

Hii Friends

Issue got resolved .

Root cause : There are other folder on which quota is being set for these users and edquota <user_name> is not able to read n list them.Its only showing entry for /dev/sda7 and not listing others folder on which quota is also set.
In my case /dev/VolGrp1/LogVol1 is mounted on /data_LogVol and quota is being set on that also which is not being read by edquota <user-name> command. I rebooted the server m/c and now its reading all the mounted partitions on which usrquota is being set in /etc/fstab file.

As its not able to read other mounted partitions on which quota is being set thats why its giving message
edquota: Quota file not found or has wrong format....

Cheerzz!!
