Making Pen Drive Grub bootable

Hi,

This is me Gyan ... I run RHEL5 ... Whenever I run "dd if=diskboot.img of=/dev/sda1" to make my pen drive bootable it looses its original size. I have a 2 gb pen drive & when I run the above command it just shows used space as 6.5 mb & free space as 5.4 mb. So, I can no more use it for extra storage ... how can I recover remaining space and use as a storage media too....

Thanx

your issue is the partition of whatever is inside the diskimage.

1) be aware that your bios must also allow a boot order to allow usb to boot first.

2) to install grub have a read of signature if you like

can you also say what system is the diskboot image based on?

you may be better off...for the first time at least....to use damn small linux live cd or puppy to build your usb stick....test it...that way you know your bios is ok....and then venture into other systems
