Being able to boot from a USB device generally depends on whether or not your BIOS supports that option. If the mobo does support it, just confirm that the USB device appears at the top of the boot sequence; if the mobo doesn't support it you are probably out of luck. I did see something about booting from a floppy, loading in the necessary USB kernel modules, then continuing the boot process from the USB device, but I don't know how practical this is.
