kernel panic

I am using RHEL AS4 in a HP Netserver LC2000.When I use "startx" command from a terminal it gives "kernel panic" error.
Why it is happening and how could I resolve this?

It sounds like you are loading a module for your video (for example an ATI or Nvidia proprietary driver), and it is failing.

I have just logged in a opening a terminal by Ctrl+F1 and used "startx" to come back in GUI.
