Need help in using Raspberry Pi 2 as Router

Hi,

I have a Raspberry Pi 2. I want to use it as a "wired router" and use my Dlink DIR 600 L as wireless access point.
I have got a USB to Ethernet adapter.
Please guide me with step by step instructions.

Which image should I install on the Pi and how ?

Need help in using Raspberry Pi 2 as Router

I was using CentOS on my Pi 3 as a wired and wireless router. i recently upgraded to a Pi 3 B+ running Slackware instead. The main issue with using a Pi 2 is throughput because everything is transferred over the USB 2.0 interface. It can cause a bit of a bottleneck on your network.

If you need a tutorial for setting up a home router, Google is your friend. Be sure you configure your firewall appropriately otherwise you are asking for trouble. The image you install isn't really important though - pick a Linux distribution you are comfortable with.

I use dnsmasq for DHCP and DNS. If you were going to set up a wireless access point, use Hostapd. Be sure to enable ip forwarding and use NAT on the WAN port. It is also probably a good idea to disable IPV6 on all network interfaces.

At the moment my main problem is no matter which image I transfer with "dd" to SD card

the Pi is stuck in the RAINBOW color screen.

Tried with Etcher same result.

That means the pi is under-volting. Upgrade your power supply amperage.

But it works fine when I specifically use the Noobs image.

Anyways after many unsuccessful attempts I have given up this project.

Now I will be using the Pi as a media center solution for my TV.

I have installed libreelec using the Noobs image.

If you cannot figure out how to boot your Pi, it's probably not a good idea to use it as an Internet facing device that all the other devices on your LAN depend on security wise and stability wise.

True. I will be buying a DDWRT compatible router and use that instead.

Right on. Different distros take different power. Glad you got it solved though. A media center sounds like more fun than a router
