How to change resolution

I am running Linux-2.6.11 on a Embedded Device which doesn't have XServer.
In Normal Linux Desktop / Laptop there will be xorg.conf file which helps to change the resolution to the predefined modes.
So How to change resolution without XServer or Xorg.conf file? from 1024 * 768 to 800 * 480.

Thanks & Regards,
Arun
