I'm a complete Linux newbie, but not a computer newbie.I want command line only, no GUI. I need remote access to the server, FTP, web, and possibly mail. What distro do you guys recommend? Thanks!
Use any of them, try several out. This will be the best way for you to decide which one works best for you as all of them can do what your wanting and asking of.

fr dat reason i suggest mandrake/fedora
Clearly it seems he's stating he wants this for server purposes mainly, which doesn't need a GUI and only takes away resources that can be used elsewhere.

that is SOOO completely true, I learned nothing of linux for the three months i had redhat. then I got slackware, and for the week it took me to get xwindows working, i was stuck in CLI, and I got comfortable there, which made it easier to learn everything else, most stuff is easier done in CLI, when getting advice thats not from a user of the same distro.
and if they'r a slack or gentoo user, they'l probably tell you a CLI answer anyways.
anything would do like trickykid from linux to bsd, choose one you are comfortable with.
I would suggest if you are a newbie to try a distro with a easy package management and after to try other ones and decide which one suits you the best.
you sure will learn quicker when using only the cli than other newbies.
