New SUSE Distro. - Which distro., should I buy or download?
I am using SUSE 8.2 Professional on my laptop.
I have used this for 1.5 years, a friend loaded this onto my laptop using a package that I bought from Amazon.
I would like a newer version of SUSE, but have never installed this myself. Would it be better to buy another package, rather than attempt to download this from a free online version?
I thought that the newest distro. was 9.2. I see people mentioning 10.0 as well. Is it better to stay with 8.2, or are there enough new attributes in the newer versions of SUSE to make it worthwhile to upgrade?
What version of SUSE would be a good choice for an upgrade, if any?
I have problems with playing DVD-ROMS on 8.2. is this improved in the newer versions ? I have read that 9.2 still does not really support DVD-ROMS.Is that so?
It is actually legal to download Suse 9.3 pro or to copy someone else's DVD/CDs (read the license!), but if you like it definitely buy it to help fund continued development of the distribution.

I read and write DVDs on SuSE 9.3 every other day with no problems. It's no different (for a humble user) than reading CDs. To watch encrypted DVD movies you need to do a little configuring yourself though.
SuSE 8.2 is kind of old, you will definitively note a lot of positive difference.

It sounds as if 9.3 would be the best for me. I think that i will order the package from Amazon.
Were you referring to Professional, or Personal?
Have you noticed any dark screen problems when using SUSE on a laptop?
If I close my laptop, I have to open and close the top many times before the monitor is legible. If I leave the laptop open, the screen stays lit all of the time.
Would this be a problem with my laptop battery, or the version of SUSE I am using?
I noticed many other people having dark screen problems with SUSE, but not this exact problem.
Thanks!
I installed the beta. It's fairly stable. Most problems seem to lay in firefox...and a few things in yast. MP3 support doesn't come installed by default, so you have to add a yast source...and install the 'mad' files. Other than that though..it really is damn stable. I wish I could get rid of beagle though...from autoloading..

Thanks for the help.
What is the difference between 9.3 and 10?
Is 10 easier to install than 9.3? I have used several different SUSE's. I am now using 8.2. I found that each application was not that easy to install.
I had wanted to Partition and use XP as well. That just did not work at all. As long as XP was loaded, SUSE did not work properly at all. I had to completely remomve XP.
Would it be possible to reload, and actually use XP with 9.3 or 10?
Which KDE do they use?
I have just installed Firefox. It took awhile to install. I had heard that it was the best ever. However, I was already using Mozilla, and I do not detect much of a difference between the two. Firefox is a bit faster, and I can enable all of my G-mail account with Firefox. Other than that, not much difference.
