Main PC 3.0ghz 1gb ddr400 mb - XP Pro, Frugalware, (Had PCLinuxOS), (Had Kanotix), (Had VLOS 1.2), right now OpenSuSe 10.0 bet2 (HAD PHAERONIX) TOO

w00t! Fedora Core 3.

Unfortunately, that box is never on the internet, so i'm missing about 280 updates.

oh well, it's still good, even though it's a tad slower than slackware.

I use debian.

It all began once late night in $MONTH, chatting on irc, when a guy named z3phyr recommend debian to me.

$AMOUNT months later, I give it a go. It kinda' stuck.

Before that, I had a very brief affair with Red Hat 6.2, but that was *way* back then.

The things I appreciate about debian:

*) Since I lean towards (read: only use) free (libre) software, being able to say `main, period' is a dealbreaker. By that logic, Ubuntu would be OK too(*)

*) It's gratis.

*) It's free from commercial interests. While they aren't bad *per se*, they often dictate over pure technical interests. IOW, "there's no PR & Marketing division to screw it up"

*) Most of the time (IOW often enough for me) it `Just Works'.

*) It has a boatload of packages.

*) update-alternatives.

my two cents --Jonas

Mepis because its easy, doesn't waste your time, very automated, is also a live CD, and it comes with more working out the box than any other distro I've tried.

Main desktop: 1.2GHz, 768MB RAM - Slackware-current
Laptop: 1.5GHZ, 512MB RAM - Slackware-current
Demand-dial server: P233, 64MB RAM - Slackware 9.1

I guess my favorite is Slackware. It was the first distro I found that worked with all of my current hardware at the time. I always liked how it only installs the essentials and lets the user choose what else to add. It has always treated me good. It does what I want when I want. If somethings wrong it's easy to fix. The tgz package system couldn't be easier to use. Since I first installed 9.1 I have had so much fun tweaking the fs, modifying config files, playing with script files, compiling kernels and keeping up to date with -current.

Once I went Slack I never went back.

OLD Pc: Arch (Thinking what to install to dual-boot)

Main PC : XP Pro, Frugalware, OpenSuSe 10.0 (latest)

Thinking about reinstalling new VLOS (gentoo) because gentoo is so great. and 3.0ghz 1gb ram is good enough to compile , until my friend (phaeronix developer) releases new up to date stable phaeronix version coming soon. Stay Tuned!
