Hey, I'm very new to Linux. So far I have a dual boot Ubuntu running under a Windows Vista Home Premium host, and have a Fedora Core 10 pen drive, wich I use on my laptop. So far, they both seem to balance out in terms of what's available and what isn't. Still, I have a 298 GB external drive, which I want format and use for another version of Linux. I'm wondering if there is one specifically suited for the needs of a prorammer, in that it supports more or better IDEs. I mostly use C++, C#, C# w/ ASP.NET, Python, and some various scripting languages. Any suggestions on what distro would be the best....an what IDE(s) are recomended for developing under these languages?
Thanks,
James
Almost all IDE's work in any distro. You can either compile it from source or a binary (i386 and x86_64 usually) is offered. So I'm pretty sure any distro really works. Others, of course my have preferences, but I use Arch linux on all my machines (server, laptop, et cetera). Its simple lightweight, has a large (almost as large as ubuntu) number of packages (including AUR, user made packages) and can be tailored to a systems needs. It does require some linux knowhow, but the wiki pages are also really good.

Like I said, I'm new to Linux, so how do you go about compiling the source/binary...is there a pre-installed compiler that you can load the source in and compile, or a command in a terminal window?
