I am considering to take my next step in learning Linux... the last one before building a CLFS 64 bits, which is installing, deploying and managing a Crux box.
What is the user base of Crux...?
AFAIK it is one of the tiniest and geekiest communities in Linux, similar to Gentoo users or Arch users, but with a user base somehow smaller.
Does anyone here has anything to say about Crux...?
It comes without a pre-compiled kernel... one has to compile it in the target machine after the install proper... This I know...
I've played around with it recently. Crux has no configuration tools, have to configure everything by hand. Has a ports system similar to gentoo, however has a smaller set of base packages than gentoo. The cd only installs xorg with openbox window manager, but on the initial installment of X the only thing that works is twm window manager, To get openbox to work everything has to be configured by hand. Crux wiki is where you will find information about installing other desktops. For me the problem I had understanding was the package management system, until I learned that "prt-get depinst" is what to use for installing packages.
