Hello All,
I am new to the world of Linux, so please excuse the ignorance. I am trying to get away from windows, so figured this would be a good distro to start with.
When I try to install Linux, I set my computer to boot from the cd, and restart. The menu comes up with all the options, but no matter what option I pick, my computer always displays a black screen. I have an 80gb hd with windows xp pro on 1 partition, and nothing on the other partition. According to the manual, Linux should detect the unused portion and install, right?
The hd I am installing to is set as the master drive on the IDE channel.
I am not sure what I am doing wrong.
Does anyone have any advice?
Thank you
i'd try the knoppix live cdrom: excellent hardware detection and no danger to your computer. if you like it, you can install knoppix from it too by typing knx-hdinstall or knoppix-install or something like that (experimental and hidden, but worked great for me)
You guys are awesome!
I was able to get in to install by selecting text only and then manual install. took awhile, but it finally installed. But it only asked for 2 disks. Huh. Now just have to sort out the bugs(can't use mouse, etc.) But it is a small price to pay, for the price of doing business.
Again, thank you for the help. Much more helpful than a windows forum.
