Redhat up2date

Hi

I am having a reproducable problem with up2date.

I have 2 ip addresses, and this appears to be causing the problem.

If i dont bind the second ip address to the box, up2date works perfectly, but if i add the 2nd ip by doing:

/sbin/ifconfig eth0:1 xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
/sbin/route add xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx dev eth0:1

up2date no longer works, and ALWAYS gives:

[root@cirrus root]# up2date -p
Error communicating with server. The message was:
No route to host

(ive also found that this problem seems to affect rdate being used in a cron to set the time/date of the server.

Any ideas why this is happening?

Im using redhat 9

You need to set a default gateway device.
In /etc/sysconfig/network, add the following line:
Code:
GATEWAYDEV=eth0
Also, the route command will display your routing table.
Code:
route -n
