Redhat-9 mysql


I am lokking for people who could tell me how to change my path of the datadir. I try in my.conf, but could not start mysql after.
Is it possible to run mysql on open office without problem ?, I can use mysql as standalone, I can see the records in openoffice but if I try to insert some I have complain from odbc.
All advice, how do I did or how to do links are more than welcome.

a newbie disturb to have red so much manuals.
