Exclamation Red Hat 9.0/Dell Inspiron 8200 running on battery

Hello All,

I have a bit of a problem with my Dell Insprion 8200. I was running Red Hat 8.0 and recently upgraded to 9.0 and never had this problem with RH8.0. When I am using the battery for power and leave my computer for about 10 minutes, the screensaver kicks in. The problem is rather than the screensaver showing up my screen goes haywire and there are only 3 visible lines at the top of my LCD. If I try to wake up the machine nothing happens. The only way I have found to solve this is to reboot my machine which gets old after about 1000th time of doing it. Has this happened to anyone else?

Thanks in Advance,
Doug

Hi Doug,

I run Red Hat 9 on a Dell Inspriron 7500.

Go to preferences - > screensaver -> advanced (tab) then unclick the Power Management Enabled box. This should prevent it from going to screen after the battery is out.

On my notebook, the screensavers work fine with and without it on battery power. This may be because the two computers have different video cards, I don't know.

Try disabling the power management, and see if that helps. If it doesn't, can you come back with the name of the video card? Good luck.
