Fine forget it, I'll not ask anymore questions without running my posts through spelling/grammar checkers and having them proof read by people with a Phd in English.

Apparently I can't speak clearly for the mods, funny other members seems to pic up on what I was asking... No fear, I'll find somewhere a little more open to newbs to post my questions in the future.

Thank you to the few who actually helped.

All up to you, but remember, where ever you go: you'll keep
missing the points. It's not me not understanding your post,
it's you believing that you understand the layout of LQ better
than me. And that I as a mod should worry about the content
of your inquiry rather than its proper placement.

Anyway, best of luck and all that. And if you feel there's
a need to talk about this in more detail, e-Mail me.

Cheers,
Tink

What points am I missing?

Doesn't the content of the post determine its proper place?

Decided I didn't have anything to say that's important enough to risk getting caught in the middle of anything.

Actually, this is getting a litle off-topic. elemental666, could you post us a short version of post#1, just the questions or points you want opinions on? Thanks

Off-topic, yes.
There's something more though. If someone does some unnecessary bragging then mod is the one who must show the right path. Personal attack is ugly. Everyone can have a bad day. Those with public duties are still not entitled to whack innocent parties.

i feel that it was not wacking, it was gentle guidance- it's just that the personalities of lots of people here tends to be "gruff" because of the lack of body language, tone, etc.

Summary: elemental is saying that he has experience, and is not afraid of a steep learning curve, and that said, wonders whether gentoo is good or what is a good "learn linux" linux. He also is asking whether it would be worth learning bsd as well.

I answered him up near the top. And let's now keep it on topic, eh?

Thanks for the summary titanium_geek

I would have to say that if you want to learn Linux, go for the older/more stripped down distros - Gentoo, Slackware, Debian. If you have a spare box and a lot of spare masochism, go for Linux From Scratch (LFS).

Learning *BSD is useful, if only to know where there are points of similarity and difference between Linux and *BSD. And to decide for yourself which one you want to have as your permanent OS.

ok, I given myself a few days to gain some perspective on this situation. Fact is, this seems to be one of the best places to ask questions about linux, from a learning standpoint anyway, and I don't want to burn this bridge.

I tend to get long winded at times because when I simplify I usually over simplify and then have to answer questions in order to get answers to my originl questions. I wasn't trying to brag about anything. I was trying to give an idea of my background and technical aptitude. I felt irrelevant aspects of my post were being focused on, rather the questions I posed, and got upset that I ended up in a ego-centered flame war with the mods. I offer my appologies to the community for possibly flying off the handle.

Looks like you have answered my questions while I was away, thank you. I will be using Gentoo and Suse and worry about BSD later.

Thank you.
