No sound with both RH9.0 abd SuSE 9.0 pro

Both distros will not play cd-roms (no sound but it looks like it finds the tracks) with any player I try to get playing. But it will play sound off of quake 3 and system sounds are not an issue either.

does your machine play audioCDs in windows?

Yeah it sure does... I use iTunes as my main player.... Everything plays in Windows... but none of the *pre-installed* SuSE apps play anything it seems... I downloaded mplayer... which works great for my video files (it plays sound fine) Quake 3 plays sounds fine... but I have yet to find one app yet tthat will play my mp3's or cd-rom audio discs. The install automatically mounts and reads the cd's fine with KsCD but no sound... I downloaded winamp and it will not play them either.

it's SuSE 9.0 Pro w/ latest patches
