netgear ma401RA and knoppix or phlack

im running on a TI extensa 390 233mhz p2 w/256mb ram and no harddrive i have various live cd,s knoppix 3.3 knoppix std .1 and phlack .2 none work with my netgear ma401RA it can see the access point and i can get the ESSID to come up to the name of the access point but i can not connect to anything
i have tried various tips like ifconfig -a ,ifconfig eth0 up which gives me the ESSID after i do so , i ran a command that allows me to see card info
and about the manfid 0x000b,0x7300 and found it to be so in one knoppix cd 3.3 but still no connect only looks like its connected
im about to dump a knoppix image to harddrive and try to edit the file /etc/pcmcia/config and make a few changes as to what i read about the card info and reburn iso . its driving me crazy cause alot of people get this to work and this card was reccomended with linux .
what to do ?
