need HD install to behave like live-CD: autoconfig on every boot

Hello all,

I need a Linux installation on a HD that will be moved from system to system for hardware testing purposes. Its most important requirement is that it auto-configure the hardware on every boot, just like live CD's such as Knoppix do.

Is this easily done? Or is there a simple method of making a running session re-configure the hardware? Which distro would be a good candidate.?

Thanks,

Rex

I do that with a Slackware and his standard ide kernel. The only problem i encountered was on an old machine with a good old keyboard (midi-like connector).

Okay, I found one that works, but....

DSL installed on the hd runs <exactly> like it does on the cd.

The 'but' is that it only finds one NIC on a machine with two. This appears to be a common problem with distros derived from Knoppix built on Linux 2.4. Newer Knoppii (plural of Knoppix?) built on Linux 2.6 are able to find both NICs. I've found this true of Knoppix 4.0.2 and Kanotix 2005-03.

So in my search for a distro, I'm kinda back to Square One, with a new requirement added to the list: Find all NICs, not just the first one.

Any ideas anyone?

Thanks
