Dual Boot XP/RH8 autoconfig failed

I just bought a Desktop Dell Dimension 4700. I reinstalled Windows XP and gave it 5GB of the overall 40GB available (one hard drive).
Then I try to install Red Hat 8. Every thing works fine, Automatic partionning, GRUB etc..

But when it is time to reboot, linux starts booting and then stops and hangs at the point where it seems to be counting up sectors on the hard drive with the following messages :

oprofile: can't get RTC I/O ports

autoconfig failed,

Unknown IDE-controller

What does that mean, and what should I do ?
