I've been tinkering around and have some of the titles working (Quake 3 Arena and Descent 3), but in the process have broken my automounting of the CD-RW/DVD-ROM drive (due to Terminus not releasing the CD drive, and claiming there was a disk in it... and removing and adding it in YaST2 helped a little but it's still kinda broken,... ejecting is a problem unless I've su'd to root). I still can't get VegaStrike working because the RPM system refuses to believe that the default OpenAL installation is really there... And if I try installing an older OpenAL, I'll risk breaking other things that are currently working. I still have no clue what the problem is with SimCity3000 (segfaults). Terminus still doesn't play... I'll maybe try the fan hack, TPE, which might run better.
I've tried creating symLinks to the newer libraries and giving them the older version numbers,... and just plain old looking for packages that fix the incompatibilities...
I guess I have to get on the Beta-test team for SuSE 9.2 if I want to make sure the next release doesn't break my apps & games.

I've upgraded my desktop machine to a DVD-ROM/CD-RW drive since the original CD-RW was on the fritz. I've got xine working on both machines now. The only problem that remains is that SimCity 3000 segfaults no matter what.
SuSE 9.1 has issues with OpenAL. That was what was causing the problems on the laptop with Terminus. On the desktop, I did an upgrade.
What I can't get working right now is my desktop in root (yes I know, you aren't supposed to go graphical with root... but I like to have the option).
Also, CD/DVD insertion is quirky on both machines.

I said quirky not jerky. DMA is enabled. I made sure of it.
It's quirky because on my laptop, sound playback gets an occasional echo effect. On my desktop, xine settings don't always stick...
subfs is the source of the insertion problems, I'm fairly certain. I really don't have the time to troubleshoot right now as I am busy as heck at work, and in my personal life.
i have suse 9.1 prof on desktop with gig ga-7n400 pro board, it works great with my serial drive. i,m very happy with suse 9.1, can,t say enough good things about it. the next release of suse will have a lot of novell input , and will be even better than suse 9.1 .
