HPT370 raid0 Kernel?

Well I tried a method shown to me on another site to finally get my RH linux to recognize my raid0 configuration on my VP6 unsuccessfully. So I was wondering if anyone knew which kernel has HPT370 support or has successfully installed linux on a HPT370 controller with raid0?

drjimstuckinwin uses that controller for Raid on his Abit k7v-R Athy mobo. I've got the same board, and have gotten the kernel to recognize the controller in Dmesg, but I don't have a lot of money for disk... and I really don't care about backing up my tuxracer games that much anyway.

I don't know of a distro that has a pre-fab kernel with specs for that controller compiled in... really this is just a matter of recompiling your kernel. If your distro is new enough to all ready have a 2.4.x by default, I recomend just downloading 2.4.17 (which I know has it in there) from kernel.org and compiling that. The section on Raid in menuconfig is pretty easy to poke through.

Also, if doc Jim finds this thread he may be able to help you through some of the difficult stuff involving Raid.

Cheers,

Indeed I use the hpt370, and getting it working took weeks. Mainly because I wanted the RAID, if you just want ata100 disks, you don't need drivers etc. The problem is installing on the drives which the installer cannot recognise as a raid array. Many problems, but the truth is out there!
You will need to flash the bios for RAID to work properly, details at pauls unofficial abit kt7a faq, which is somewhere on via's site, google will find it. There's probably something similar for your board.
Then you need a highpoint driver, from www.highpoint-tech.com . Theres a RH version 1.3 which works with 7 - 7.2 . In the download tarball, theres a readme pdf which walks you through it.
I don't know what a vp6 is offhand, but if its an athlon, watch out for the athlon bug which is probably still headlining at slashdot.
At work at present, will try to check back later in case you need more help.
