How to switch desktops nom\kde in mandrake 9

As a complete novice at linux i am trying to reconfigure it for the 1st time.
After installing mandrake 9 the auto setup chose kde and I wanted to try gnome which i did but now i want to go go back to kde but cannot get mandrake to comply .Now after trying several options it is going into command line mode without loading any gui at all. How do i get kde back ?

Can anyone recommend a beginners book that is reasonably priced ?

Try "startx kde".

For a book, try "Linux System Administration" by Marcel Gagne. It covers the basics but goes much further for once you're comfortable with the basics.
