Deb3R5 or Slackware 10.1?

Although I've dinked around with FC2 in the past for awhile, I'm relatively new to Linux and have recently been reading the Linux Cookbook in which they rave quite often about Debian and it sounds very good to me, especially in terms of the huge size of the repositories.

I've recently had troubles with the boot process (posted Deb3R5: Boot process fails) which is making me quite impatient. Therefore, I downloaded all 4 Slackware ISO files last night, planning on installing Slackware instead of Debian.

What do members of LQ suggest? Which distro is better in terms of package distribution, functionality, etc.?

When I look at distro reviews here at LQ, Slackware distros come out ahead of Debian ones, both in terms of the rating and number of reviewers. This pretty much says to me that the numbers are not lying. However, Slackware could just be more popular among Linux users... I don't know.

Suggestions are much welcomed.
Thanks

Edit: I just discovered the post entitled Debian vs. Slackware so I will read this, but suggestions would still be nice.

Try both, then decide for yourself which one you like best. As for package management, Debian would have the edge over Slack, no question Note: there are package management solutions that have been developed for Slack, eg, swaret, however, they are not officially endorsed by Slackware, nor do they come with Slackware. That being said, LinuxPackages is an unbelievably superb resource for Slackers. Definitely check it out.

BTW you only the first 2 CD's for a complete Slack 10.1 install (disks 3 and 4 contains source). Have fun with playing around with them both -- J.W.

Thank you. I've resolved the issue with Debian installation I was having so I'll most likely install Debian. Linux distributions on the whole are all pretty much the same but curiosity has killed the cat.
