g'day all, I know the question what distro is best can't be answered very simply and is asked many times however i have a similar but different question....
I want to know what distro is most graphical, i want an OS that is as bright and cheerful as mac but linux powered. Im not asking for one that looks the same i just simply want one that looks nice and has all the basics.
I have been looking at Mandriva, Knoppix, MEPIS, Kubuntu... but i do not have the time to look through the screenshots of every OS :P many many many
I think the answer to your questions is KDE. A good number of distros have KDE as a default desktop environment. If KDE doesn't give you the eye candy you're looking, I'd say you haven't really explored KDE enough. There will be some folks that will probably come along and suggest that your should try Gnome as well. I'd also recommend that you check out Gnome, it's good to see all the options, although I think you'll find that KDE has more eye candy.

So you are basically saying anything with a KDE desktop would look nice. Got a distro in mind? I quite like the look of Mandriva and Knoppix... Kubuntu is a bit bare.
Distribution: Slackware 10.2, Debian Testing/Unstable, Ubuntu Breezy Badger, working on LFS

You can configure KDE any way you want. It doesn't depend on the distro. Go to KDE-Look and check out some of the screenshots and themes and you'll probably find a cheerful looking desktop. Just download any distro with KDE and configure it until it looks like a desktop you'd want.
I use Slackware but that's just my personal preference. Many distros come with KDE and Gnome, but will default to one or the other. You can check out Distrowatch.com for information about each distro and also whether they include KDE in their packages. The decision of which distro you prefer is usually a matter of trial and error. When I started getting into Linux, I tried several distros. Although it may not be the easiest distro to work with, I haven't found a distro that I like better then Slackware.
KDE is KDE regardless of the distro. You can make it look and behave how you want. A short trip to kde-look.org will equip you with lots of eye candy. I think Kubuntu, Mepis or Suse would be good starting points.
