Hi,

there's no 'best' Linux distribution. All depends on your preferences and uses. If you describe what problems you had with SuSE, then somebody will tell you with what distribution you'll have fewer of them. In general, Debian is more 'tweakable' and geeky, while Mandrake and Fedora are better tuned for desktop uses. All distributions should perform well on your configuration (after proper setup).

Best distro for your computer is Gentoo (www.gentoo.org)
Since you have a Athlon-XP, Gentoo can be optimized for Athlon-XP
Take my advice, Try Gentoo!!
