Am I the only one that doesn't like Ubuntu because everyone else does like it?

but if you login to root...and go onto the internet...you are as bad as a ms user.
I like su....ubuntu prefers sudo. but they both mean...you login as a normal user then use commands to get root powers....that is safer please.
The main advantage of being a local user...is if something goes wrong...you su to root and remove that local user account and use commands adduser etc to create a new user.
b) but it would be handy for you to remember what you were doing like going to porn sites or known attack sites?
I am not suggesting you would do such a thing...but firefox browser and others may warn you about attack sites...so please take care out there ok?

Uh... I don't logon as root and surf. I don't have a problem getting attacked by evil on the web. I just don't Ubuntu. I don't have to like Ubuntu. I don't have to even have a good reason for not liking Ubuntu. Even though I hate the word "Ubuntu" I do like Debian. I decided why use distro's based on Debian when I could use Debian. Yipee.
I've used Ubuntu for a little over two years on my Dell laptop. I've used Dapper, Edgy, Feisty, and now Intrepid (which is terrible).
My dislike of Ubuntu is that they issue a warm-fuzzy mission statement, but act like any other cold, indifferent corporation. They do not provide support. You are on your own. You can get help from user's groups, but that is user helping user. You get absolutely nothing from Ubuntu, but a free download and access to wiki pages.
The reason Microsoft is still No. 1 is because of companies like Ubuntu. They promise much, but don't come close to delivering or supporting a system that can be easily used by anyone. That part of their blurb (Linux for "human beings") is a lie.
ANY DISTRO WITHOUT ROOT ACCESS IS NOT REALLY LINUX !!!
you want a good reason for disliking it there it is
I dislike youbumtoo so much I have given it my own name
I had it installed once for as long as it took me to give up on finding root access
I also doubt any slacker would like it ether
Code:
sudo [command] [parameters] [whatever]
for instant access, or System->Administration->Login Window->Security to login as root, or Add/Remove... and install Root Terminal. Couldn't be any easier.

I don't know about you but I tend to be careful when calling people liars, even if it's on the Internet.
First of all, no. Ubuntu is not the reason Microsoft is number one. I'm not even going to start listing what's wrong with that statement.
Secondly, I've never really read Ubuntu's "mission statment" but I gather that they simply want to make an accessible OS (viz., shipit delivers free CDs to people, so John Doe doesn't need to learn how to burn an .iso image) and making it easy. For example:
I use Ubuntu, my friends use Ubuntu, my mom uses Ubuntu (she's a programmer, so that doesn't really prove much), my girlfriend dual-boots Ubuntu and my little sister uses Ubuntu, my uncle which is by no means a computer person uses Ubuntu because he attended a seminar on open source (he's the nicest guy you'll meet so I think he has a good chance of converting more "regular guys") and my nephew wants me to install Ubunutu on his computer. I'm the only one that is interested in the Linux itself, most of them just use Ubuntu because they like it more than Windows.
I can almost swear that none of these people would be using Linux now if it weren't for Ubuntu, and Ubuntu served as a launchpad to launch me into the Linux world. Now I don't know whether my friends and family count as "human beings" but it sounds to me like you sir are full of shit.
Well, I've tinkered with Ubuntu once or twice and while I admire the unspoke mission statement behind the name, for some reason I still always come away thinking 'very nice but not for me!' And I did do a little celebration when Mepis went back to being based directly on Debian rather than Ubuntu...
As for the earlier post regarding support, it seems to me that as soon as you go to ubuntu.com and click on the link for support, it's clear that free support is provided by the community. Canonical will support you, but you have to pay for it. (It would be interesting to see if there is any benefit in terms of quality of advice & response times...) I personally don't see there's anything inferior with communuity/user based support, as long as everyone remembers that it is user helping user and to bring their manners with them when they post a request or, indeed respond to a problem. In my opinion although RTFM type answers are bad, people posting on forums as though they're owed something are porbably worse. That went slightly OT, didn't it? sorry....

Here it is in a nutshell.
Here is a quote from their website, "What does Ubuntu mean?
Ubuntu is an African word meaning 'Humanity to others', or 'I am what I am because of who we all are'. The Ubuntu distribution brings the spirit of Ubuntu to the software world. "http://www.ubuntu.com/products/whatisubuntu
I don't have a problem with the part that says humanity to others. I have a problem with the part that says I am what i am because of who we all are. I have a problem with the reasons they might of had for adopting a warm, fuzzy, inclusive, feel-good, idea. I guess it just makes me feel kind of funny. It is just kind of lame. "Hey guess what fellas, I'm using Ubuntu."
"What's that?"
"It's a linux distro."
"That sounds gay."
why couldn't it be serial killer linux or Nuke'm all linux or anything a little more ominous or cool. Instead it is a word that makes you feel neutered.
Again, I know it might seem irrational, and it might be, but that doesn't make it the way I feel about it. Try as i might, I just can't like it.

Once upon a time in Iceland (the country where people ride penguins to work) people had Ubuntu. If a stranger would come to your house you would give him some food and shelter and he would in turn entertain you with poems and songs, and give news of other countries and families. Nothing gay about that.
"I am what I am because of who we all are" means that we shouldn't envy people just because they do well, because one person doing good is better for us all. Think of Wikipedia, that's a form of Ubuntu too. Again, not gay.
Now think about someone (who is probably a troll) that doesn't use a distro because it's called Ubuntu. Fine? Don't use Ubuntu then? You have a choice of over a 100 operating systems and nobody is forcing you to use Ubuntu. You are gay.
I can't say that I don't like Ubuntu but there are other I like too and some even better.
Puppy, Openmamba, SamLinux, Knoppix, Mandriva beside Ubuntu are my favorite distributions.
Now I don't like Iceland. I killed the troll with an axe made of melted ubuntu discs.
Ouch, I'm sorry for ruining a whole country for you please find it in your heart to forgive Icelanders, they are a poor and simple folk. I have to go now because my fingers get cold from typing on my ice-keyboard (my router is also melting)
