ALSA problems with Gentoo 2004.0

I recently installed Gentoo.

I did an 'emerge alsa' and 'emerge alsa-oss' as well as 'emerge alsamixergui'. Gentoo somehow automaticaly recognized my card and updated the modules as needed. But still I have no idea why I can't hear any sound!

go to http://www.alsa-project.org, then click "Supported Soundcards", then follow the manual from thereon. (note: compiling ALSA-driver from source is recommended over an emerge).

But i'll leave that up to you. good luck!
