KDE fux3d up ALSA! Yarrrrgh! Gentoo 2004.0

Hey guys,

I made the awful mistake of emerging KDE. The eyecandy just got to me.

Anyways, ever since I emerged it, ALSA just refused to work. I couldn't get past this problem, so I completely unmerged every aspect of KDE. It's all gone.

However, my problem still continues. As per what the Gentoo boards told me, I deleted three automatically-generated files from ALSA, and remerged every aspect of ALSA as well.

So, now I don't have ARTS/Kmix anymore, and I am stuck with a broken ALSA. This is so because whenever I run alsaconf, the program DOES NOT find my Audigy card, and when I do 'grep audio /proc/pci', it shows my card there.

As you can see, everything is being recognized, but for some reason ALSA refuses to detect/install my card.

Any help regaurding this issue is highly valued and appreciated.

Thanks!

check if the sound module is loaded by the kernel (unless it's monolithic)

then checkout the alsactl man page, there are some options regarding this.

I think your decision to unmerge kde was a bit hasty, the chances are that it was not kde that is stopping your soundcard working, but as chakkerz said, just that the module was not being loaded (perhaps because you need to update your configuration files?) Check to see if your module is loaded with this command:

Code:
/sbin/lsmod
