I am using the latest opensuse with kde 4.3
As I am using a lot the virtual desktop functionality I usually get confused with what virtual desktop I am currently working on.
This is why sometimes I try to press ctrl+f8 to see together the four virtual desktops. Other times I am trying to see the pager to find out which virtual desktop is currently "active"..
I wish the pager icon was a little big bigger (ok i can try to enlarge it a little but this will enlarge the whole task bar, which i do not want to do).
So I though to ask here if you know some pager-virtual desktop indicator that can always be on the top left or right corner of my screen and show a number for the virtual desktop I am currently working on.
For example a big (semi transparent) "2" would be visible when I am working on virtual desktop two.
Have you ever used a programme like that?
I would like to thank you in advance for your help and understanding.
On my gnome system, I use Ctrl+Alt+Downarrow to switch to a desktop under the current one (I have 6 configured, 3 over 3), but if I keep Ctrl+Alt held down I can see where I am. Can you assign keys like that ?
Also, if you click the control menu on any program window (icon at top left) it allows you to select which desktop to send it to. This also informs you where you are. I have named all my desktops according to features of my desktop wallpaper, so I know where each one is.
I think there is also a setting to show the name of each virtual desktop in the pager, so that might make it bigger and easier to see.
You can just right click on your desktop, select Add Widgets, go down the list of widgets, and add a Pager widget. After it appears on the desktop, you can move it where you want.
Then hold your mouse on the Pager widget, right click on it and open the Pager settings. You can then choose to give the Desktops displayed in the Pager numbers or names, and have them show an icon with their present content.
The widget can be made larger and do other tricks by using the mini-icons that appear when a mouse cursor is run over it. Just left click on the mini-icon, hold, and move the cursor. You can of course have as many Desktops in the Pager as you want, and use one of them as a basic reference desktop.
Clicking on the panel widget Plasma Dashboard will dim the desktop and its contents and highlight the desktop widgets, including the Pager widget, telling you where you are.
If I remember correctly, there may be a way to give the Desktop indicators colors too. Look in the openSUSE 11.2 documentation for KDE or google to see.
