Ubuntu 12.04 initramfs NFSv4?

I'm setting up a lab of diskless workstations with an NFS root. Everything is working fine except it seems root is being mounted via NFSv3, not NFSv4. I can't find anything suggesting that this is a known limitation. So what's up?

I need to set nfsroot=<server>:/srv/nfs/images/<image>
instead of nfsroot=<server>:/images/<image>
