resolution of my desktop with redhat

hello...
My desktop resoltion is by default 800*600. But i want to change my resolution to 1600*900 . I have AMD phenom XII processor and n vidia 1 GB graphics card geForce.But in the option field in systemm->adminstrator->display there is no resolution list ghreater than 800*600.

So can anybody tell me how to change the resolution .Thanks in advance.

sidhantdas, you have to check:
1. What kind of drivers are you using (grep Driver /var/log/Xorg.log), it's a great chance that you are using generic drivers and should install the specific drivers for you graphics card
2. If the drivers are right, try the command "xrandr" in your console and write what kind of output it gives. You could hack into xorg.conf (if there is such) file and change the settings, so that it can give you bigger resolution (even though this is not advisable)
