Unhappy OpenOffice-spellchecker

Hi

The spell checker in Ooo 2.0 is definaely not working. I have done the usual regarding Lanaguage
and Writing Aids etc in the Options and even selected English USA as the language. Also if I access the spellcheker(F7) while in a document an options window pops up but I can never access this box. It is always over ridden by another window which either tells me the spellchecker is complete or asks me if I wish to spellcheck the whole document. Whichever option I choose both windows then close down. I have noticed that in the options window the option for the default dictionary is blank. Why can I not access this window?

Hope somebody can help

Could it be that you don't have any spelling mistakes?

I was able to use it as I expected on a sample document. After fixing the typo, I ran spell checking again. Then it behaved as you described. Try entering an intentional typo and try it again.

Try verifying the Open Office rpm package:
rpm -V OpenOffice_org

I looked in the ooo/share/ directory and the dictionary file is a link to a myspell dictionary.

Check if you have the myspell-american package installed.

Wow! Fargo is in the myspell dictionary!

I have this problem too.....

I have this problem as well. Even if I start typing with my fists, it doesn't detect errors. And I'm using Kubuntu, so that RPM thing previously suggested wouldn't work.

Ooo Spellchecker

I took the advice of jschiwal and made sure I had myspell-en-us and myspell-en-gb installed and it solved the problem. Use Synaptic and search for myspell and highlight both the above for installation. To test load a previous Ooo doc and it should highlight any spelling mistakes.
